UNICEF’s Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, Marita Perceval, expressed her solidarity with Ecuador’s people, so hard-hit by the earthquake that shook the country last night and has affected thousands of families.

“A solidary embrace for each and every one of the persons affected and especially the country’s girls and boys and their families. I would like to invite the authorities and the general public not to forget that the effects of an emergency especially harm the smallest persons who, in a catastrophe, must be the first to receive attention and special care”.

UNICEF is also solidary with the Ecuadorian Government and has offered its full support for all boys, girls and adolescents to be protected, both physically and emotionally.

UNICEF, through its regional office and country office, has offered its assistance to Ecuador’s authorities, and is present today in all zones affected.
