“UNICEF has participated in the vaccination of 440 million children, preventing the death of 6 million”

UNICEF emphasizes the need to tie in the community in its vaccination campaigns.

During the month of April, the Representative of The United Nations Children’s Fund – UNICEF, Grant Leaity, participated in the official inauguration of the XIII Week of Vaccination in the Americas that took place in the Duran area, province of Guayas, Ecuador.

There, Grant explained that the support of UNICEF to strengthen the vaccination campaigns has been carried out for more than 40 years, through the joint work with a series of allies, such as the World Health Organization, governments, private sector and international entities.  “We have participated in the vaccination of 440 million children, preventing the death of 6 million” he remarked.

Grant Leaity considers that the tie-in with the community in the vaccination campaigns is crucial.  . “It is very important that all individuals, especially parents, assume their responsibility in ensuring their children are vaccinated and also ensuring their neighbors are also vaccinated”.

“Because if only my children are vaccinated, but the rest are not, then we are not protected.  One can work in organizing the community, work with schools or any other entity that can transmit this message” remarked the Representative of UNICEF in Ecuador.
